I called my mum today for her birthday. She’s 82 today. Happy Birthday mum.

But she gave me the present.

‘I read your book, the one you gave me for Christmas.’

My debut novel Hotel Deja Vu

‘Oh, wow, thank you.’

‘It was good. Do you have any more?’

Isn’t this what every writer wants to hear?

‘I’m working on a few, mum. You’ll be the first to know when they’re done.’

‘How on earth did you manage to write all those characters and keep them clear…their personalities…it’s very good…’

Thanks Mum.

from the wonderful Morgan Harper Nichols
