Train all the way!

You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, car, or bike?

We will be flying from Amsterdam to Budapest in August as that’s a long trip by train but the reverse journey will be the slow and scenic way.

Travel then from Budapest to Paris will be done in daytime train trips with two or three nights spent in amazing cities like Vienna and Prague.

We could drive but I really don’t like the stress of car travel in Australia let alone in a foreign country.

When we visited Europe in 2006, we had a car and a sat-nav. That wasn’t too bad because if we got lost we could blame him (the sat-nav voice.) Our son did love it when the sat-nav told us things like ‘at the next roundabout turn left and take the ferry.”

We had an English-registered car and for Europe had a large hand written sign on the dash that said ‘drive on the right.’ It got scary at times, especially when towing a caravan through Paris.

The planning for this trip is taking me ages. My friend Fiona at pixselltravels.com told me that planning a trip is half the fun and I’m trying to get in the spirit of the process but for me, the only good part about a holiday is the going, the being and the eating!
