If you could permanently ban a word from general usage, which one would it be? Why?
If I could ban “war” and “racism” and “fear” and “cruelty” and “hate” I would, but would banning a word removed its power from the world?
Would we find other words to replace them?
Words are powerful but we are equally powerful to resist and ignore them.
Bombs and drones and guns and fists are much harder to avoid.

It’s a brilliant idea but I doubt it would work Christine. There was a tribe in Africa just over 100 years ago. I cannot remember which way round it was but they didn’t have a word for the colour blue. That did not mean that they never referred to it though because they just named it another shade of green. I think the same would happen for words such as war.
Unfortunately I have to agree with you. We humans seem determined to ruin everything!
Sadly true. Is it in our DNA? Scientist could work on altering DNA before birth so humans grow up with empathy and resilience to live through tough situations without losing themselves in grief or anger. We’d have to eliminate the greed gene too.
Short post that elicits a lot of thought. <3
Thanks Chérie. I listened to a talk yesterday on how the pandemic affected people and made us less tolerant and less kind. Apparently there are kindy teachers being physically assaulted by 5-year olds and school refusal is higher than it’s ever been. Scary stuff.
All any of us can do is be the change we want to see in the world.
