Are you listening?

These are the very few podcasts that I actually subscribe to, preferring instead to pick and choose. I love sciencey podcasts about brain stuff, such as the Making Sense with Sam Harris, but some of his shows veer off into the current political landscape so I won’t always listen to those. I am interested in politics but I don’t need to hear the intricacies of just how bad things are. I like shows that educate, challenges beliefs and make you laugh and sometimes you get that in one show like the The Guilty Feminist with Debra Frances-White. There are few belly laughs but I am certainly enjoying A Podcast of One’s Own with Julia Gillard. Jules could do with some elocution lessons but I love her. I am embarrassed to admit that I wasn’t overly aware of her when she was PM apart from the parody on the radio, The Leader’s Diary.

I was browsing the other day and came across one called Seize the Yay and listened to a few. It’s Australian and really upbeat. I’ve also been bingeing ( and yes, that’s how you spell it! I am so fed up with seeing ‘binging’ all over social media! aaarrgghhhh!) Osha Gunsberg’s Podcast. It is brilliant. I’m trying to listen to more Aussie content.

Writerly podcasts.

  • The Beautiful Writers. Sometimes the presenter makes me want to hurl something at my own earbud – she fawns just a little too much over some guests, but it’s inspirational. Listen to the one with Tom Hanks. He’s lovely.
  • The Women’s Prize for Fiction with Kate Mosse. I’m desperate to go to a Bailey’s Book Bar!
  • The Creative Penn and her other podcast Books and Travel with Joanna Penn.
  • Lit Up on Podcast One with Angela Ledgerwood.

I’ve tossed around the idea of doing a podcast as far back as 2016 when I didn’t even listen to them! My friend Kate was an avid consumer of podcasts and kept suggesting that we should do one together because we were hilarious. No really, we were. I’m not really sure what I’d do a podcast about, just as I am not 100% sure what this blog is about. Words about Art and Life I call it and I guess I could verbalise some words about art and life, or maybe I could just focus on my writing…

Speaking of writing, as we go into the downhill slide to oblivion, err, I mean Christmas, my first million word deadline is coming into view. I’d say that I have smashed that number in my lifetime, but I’ve written over 500K words in the past 2 years. People keep asking why I am not painting anymore – I just don’t have time!

I am obsessed with podcasts. I can’t even do the weekly shop without listening to something! Most of my sentences start with ‘I was listening to this podcast…’ 😉
