I had an opinion on someone in the Media here in Australia that was based on zero evidence. These days, and this is my opinion, most opinions we hear about are baseless at best. Just spend five minutes reading the comments on any social media platform and you’ll form this opinion too. (Have you seen the weird, nasty stuff that gets posted about the British Royal family? Just don’t. The media learnt absolutely nada from Diana’s death.) This is why I listen to podcasts all the time. I learn something, at least one thing, new every day. What I learnt today – Angela Bishop, Australian entertainment reporter among many, many other things, is amazing. I did not know that yesterday. Thanks Mamamia podcast for teaching me this.
On Tuesday I learned that I can switch off a podcast. Who knew? I would normally soldier through because any time I have resisted the urge to press the next button the speaker has dropped some kind of amazing gem and I’ve thought “Lucky I didn’t skip!” But as it turns out, the world didn’t end when I decided I didn’t need to know about the truth behind the goings on in the Ivanka Trump/Jared Kushner alliance. Nope. Just no. Nothing good was going to come from listening to that.
On Monday I learned that I can say no. No to my son. I didn’t realise that was a thing either.
On Sunday I learned that watching a stupid movie purely for entertainment wasn’t a waste of time. The movie was called Stuber and I laughed and laughed. I also watched too much Stand-Up comedy on Netflix. Who knew I had that kind of tolerence for dick jokes (Adam Devine) and booze jokes (Iliza Shlesinger) I salute you both and no I wasn’t drinking alone on the couch. My husband was there.
On Saturday I picked up the book “Who Cooked the Last Supper?” No it’s not comedy but there are some pithy moments. I didn’t need to learn that women have been systematically oppressed for pretty much the last 3000 years where before that we experienced a far more equal existence. It’s research for my WIP The Circle of Ash but bedtime reading it is not. Gah, learning history can be a bitch! So many things have happened in the past due to ignorance and greed that really did not need to happen. It just grills my cheese and not in the good way.

I have a plaque hanging above my desk with the words “Ancora Imparo.” A sticker on the back says the words mean “I am still learning” and are attributed to Michelangelo when he was 87. Christine, you are in great company.
